The lingo in our industry relies heavily upon acronyms. Below is a guide that we hope will help you make sense of it all.
AAR: After-Action Review from AIS. It is a component of the Battlemaster™.
AUSA: The Association of the United States Army.
DIS: Distributed Interactive Simulation. It is an IEEE standard that describes the protocol for distributed simulations.
HLA: High Level Architecture. It is an IEEE standard that describes the technical architecture for all simulations used in the Department of Defense.
NBC: Nuclear/Biological/Chemical.
NTAO: The National Tactical Officers Association.
PRISim®: The Professional Range Instruction Simulator from AIS for use-of-force training.
SDT: The Scenario Development Tool from AIS. It is a component of the Battlemaster™.
SEDRIS: Synthetic Environment Data Representation and Interchange Specification. It is a standard administered by International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).
SIMNET: Simulation Network. Originally launched by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) in the 1980's, it is a program designed to deliver synchronized execution of collective war-fighting skills.
STRICOM: The U.S. Army Simulation, Training and Instrumentation Command. It is now known as Program Executive Office, Simulation, Training and Instrumentation (PEO STRI).
SVS®: The Synthetic Virtual System™ from AIS. It used in graphics-based virtual environment training simulations
SWAT: Special Weapons and Tactics.
TSA: The Transportation Security Administration, now part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
